Life of Riley’s Miniature Bull Terrier’s Facts & Details
Popularity:
122 Most Popular in 2008. The standard Bull Terrier was 55 Most Popular, mainly due to price and an easier dog to breed.
Breed Recognition:
The Miniature Bull Terrier became eligible to be shown in the Miscellaneous Class in 1963, and was accepted as a breed by the AKC in 1991.
Establishment:
The Bull Terriers were first established by breeding a Bulldog with the now-extinct white English Terrier.
Appearance:
The breed has a short coat that emphasizes their strong, muscular build. Bull Terriers possess the famous oval (football) head with a short, tapering tail. They have small, sunken, dark triangular eyes that can stare a hole through anything–their determination does NOT falter. The AKC recognizes two color varieties: solid white with or without colored head markings (such as eye patches); or colored ranging from solid red or brindle to a combination with black, tan, or white.
#1 Preventable Health Problem:
Skin allergies dues to airborne allergens such as fleas, mosquito, or mite bites can range from constant itching to an outbreak of hives or rash.
Attention Required:
The dogs are ardent chewers with very strong jaws. These dogs need very durable toys such as the Kong series. Without such toys, one of the biggest problems with these “clowns” is the ingesting of household items resulting in an intestinal obstruction which usually requires surgery.
Best Features:
These clownish personalities are very playful and intelligent despite their stubborn nature! Because of their high degree of playfulness, these dogs most often require extensive obedience training. Without this training at a young age, they will be your BOSS!
Biggest Challenge To Owners:
These highly intelligent dogs are so fun and exciting yet command continual human interaction, supervision, and lots of family activity to control their normal curiosity of getting into BIG trouble.
